Soccer Game Preview: Rio Mesa vs. San Marcos

The Rio Mesa Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the San Marcos Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rio Mesa's last four matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

San Marcos will have to contend with a Rio Mesa team hungry for a win, something the squad hasn't seen since December 19. Rio Mesa fell just short of Buena by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 710th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 193rd).

Meanwhile, San Marcos kept a clean sheet against Pacifica on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Tritons out 1-0. The Royals wouldn't have won without Zeina Matni, who scored the game-winner.

Rio Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 1-10-5. As for San Marcos, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4-3.
