Softball Recap: Gross Catholic Has No Trouble Against Plattsmouth

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crete, Gross Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Plattsmouth Blue Devils 11-3. Considering the Cougars have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alexis Skradski spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lauren Kosse was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Linder, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Gross Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.8.

Gross Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Plattsmouth, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-18.

Coming up, Gross Catholic will take on Duchesne/Roncalli in a tournament on Thursday. Gross Catholic's pitcher better be ready for this one: Duchesne/Roncalli has averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
