Soccer Game Preview: Metamora vs. Geneseo

The Metamora Redbirds are taking a road trip to challenge the Geneseo Maple Leafs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Metamora has three straight wins, Geneseo has 13 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

On Tuesday, Metamora made easy work of Limestone and carried off a 4-1 victory.

The Redbirds hit the Rockets with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ben Sondgeroth (2), Ty Lucas, and Josiah Roton.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Geneseo and Galesburg, and Galesburg kept the tradition alive. The Maple Leafs fell just short of the Silver Streaks by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.

Geneseo's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Metamora, their win bumped their record up to 7-4-3.

Metamora beat Geneseo 2-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redbirds since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
