Baseball Recap: Alpena Takes a Loss

Alpena had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 13-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Traverse City Central Trojans, falling 12-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 8-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Traverse City Central, their win bumped their record up to 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Traverse City Central's part, Grant Sivier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Sivier has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Traverse City Central got a big performance out of Wilson Coffman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Carson Spica was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Alpena will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gladiators have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Traverse City Central, they will head out on the road to face off against Traverse City West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
