Football Game Preview: Thoreau Hawks vs. Santa Fe Indian Braves

The Thoreau Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Santa Fe Indian Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Thoreau has five straight wins, Santa Fe Indian has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Thoreau's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Tohatchi 51-0. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 25 points or more this season.

Aiden Woody was nothing short of spectacular: he threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 33 yards and one TD. Keyshaun Joe got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Thoreau was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Thoreau's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Dempsey Brown with three sacks. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last six times he's played. Joe got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Indian fell victim to McCurdy and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Bobcats 52-0.

Santa Fe Indian's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Thoreau, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Thoreau against Santa Fe Indian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 37-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
