Baseball Recap: Effingham Comes Up Short

Effingham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Champaign Central Maroons. The Flaming Hearts were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Maroons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Champaign Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Effingham will head out on the road to face off against Mahomet-Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Flaming Hearts will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups. As for Champaign Central, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Normal Community at 4:30 p.m. The Maroons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ironmen have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
