Basketball Recap: Aquinas Takes a Loss

Aquinas's tournament run continued when they took on Fontana on Saturday. The Aquinas Falcons had to suffer through a 63-30 loss at the hands of the Fontana Steelers. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 934th, while the Steelers are ranked 370th).

Aquinas' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Vanessa Lear, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jordyn Williams, who put up six points and 12 rebounds. Williams has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last eight times she's played.

Even though they lost, Aquinas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Aquinas' record now sits at 6-10. As for Fontana, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Aquinas will take on Temecula Valley in a tournament on Monday. As for Fontana, they will be taking part in a tournament against Vista Murrieta at 4:05 p.m. on Monday.
