Soccer Recap: Fitzgerald's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

If Fitzgerald was feeling good fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Irwin County last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Purple Hurricane took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colquitt County Packers on Tuesday. Fitzgerald were red-hot offensively heading into the contest (they scored no less than four goals in the three matches prior), but Colquitt County's defense proved too tough.

Fitzgerald's goal came courtesy of Brooks Merritt, who's now up to three this season.

Fitzgerald moved to 9-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Colquitt County, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 9-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fitzgerald will welcome Wheeler County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Colquitt County, they will host Camden County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Camden County's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
