The Ellsworth Bearcats will take on the Lyons Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ellsworth has three straight wins, Lyons has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It was a proper cat-fight when Ellsworth faced off against Minneapolis last Friday. The Bearcats claimed a resounding 47-14 victory over the Lions. Fans of the Bearcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Tucker Goss had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 300 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Goss is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 133 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Jacobs, who rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ellsworth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 446 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 362 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Ellsworth didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacobs and Jace Thomasson.
Meanwhile, Lyons came up short against Republic County on Friday, falling 30-8.
Even if they lost, Lyons' defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Leading the way was Xander Young with two.
Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ellsworth, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Ellsworth has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 404.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lyons, though, as they've been averaging only 70.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Ellsworth against Lyons when the teams last played back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 48-7 victory. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
