Baseball Recap: Pike Victorious

Pike posted their closest win since April 7th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Elwood Panthers 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Devils.

Lincoln Sigmund made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Pike is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-12-1 otherwise. Sigmund was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Barrett Hanscom, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Joe Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Pike was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pike's record now sits at 9-12-1. As for Elwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Pike will take on Irvington Preparatory Academy in a tournament on Saturday. As for Elwood, they will head out to take on Daleville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Broncos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.22 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
