Basketball Game Preview: South Tahoe Vikings vs. North Valleys Panthers

South Tahoe is on a three-game streak of home wins, while North Valleys is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The South Tahoe Vikings will host the North Valleys Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If South Tahoe beats North Valleys with 42 points on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. South Tahoe strolled past Hug with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 42-23.

Among those leading the charge was Avery Long, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Campbell Mathews was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

South Tahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, North Valleys faced Fernley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. North Valleys had just enough and edged Fernley out 51-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since December 2, 2024.

South Tahoe is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for North Valleys, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.

South Tahoe took a serious blow against North Valleys when the teams last played on January 8th, falling 67-36. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point South Tahoe was down 38-15.
