Basketball Recap: West Mecklenburg Takes a Loss

West Mecklenburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 22nd straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Hopewell Titans 87-47. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chase Mcdonald, who posted 11 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Mcdonald has posted since back in December of 2024. Savion Morris was another key player, putting up seven points.

Hopewell had a senior duo take command as Ka'Mari Cooke dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 assists and Arael Jones almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Those 12 assists set a new season-high mark for Cooke. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayshaun Jones, who put up 13 points.

West Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Hopewell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-5.

West Mecklenburg has already played their next matchup, a 75-44 loss against Mallard Creek on the 11th. As for Hopewell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-53 defeat against North Mecklenburg on the 11th.
