Softball Recap: Menendez Finds Playoff Glory Versus St. Augustine

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Menendez walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Rylan Degrande and Madison Faust did most of the damage at the plate: Degrande got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Faust went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Carter, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI and one run.

Menendez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Menendez's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for St. Augustine, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-24.

Looking ahead, Menendez will take on Clay at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. St. Augustine does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
