Soccer Game Preview: United vs. Rootstown

The United Golden Eagles will head out to square off against the Rootstown Rovers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. United is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.7 goals per game this season.

United took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Minerva with a sharp 8-2 victory. Josh Hawkins was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Rootstown kept a clean sheet against Smithville on Saturday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Smithies. The victory continues a trend for Rootstown in their matchups with Smithville: they've now won five in a row.

Rootstown's win bumped their record up to 11-3-1. As for United, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7-2.

United was able to grind out a solid win over Rootstown in their previous meeting back in August of 2024, winning 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
