Softball Recap: Towns County Indians vs. East Hall Vikings
Towns County had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-14 to make it seven. They came up short against the East Hall Vikings, falling 14-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 on Wednesday.
Alaina Murphy made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
As for East Hall, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On East Hall's side, Aydan Gerrin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Gerrin has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, East Hall got a big performance out of Savannah Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Ella Reilly, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Towns County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Hall, they have already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Commerce on the 9th.
