Sandia is a perfect 5-0 against Albuquerque since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Matadors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Sandia's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
Sandia's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past West Mesa 54-0. The Matadors' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Jahleel Lewis produced another solid effort throwing for 335 yards and six TDs while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushing for 58 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. He is becoming a predictor of Sandia's success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). The Matadors' leading receiver George Smith was Lewis' top target yet again, picking up 93 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 32 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sandia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 73.2 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 184.7.

Sandia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Trey Foderaro. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Golden Eagles 17-14. Surprisingly, this marked the Bulldogs' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Albuquerque's win came from a few key players Sandia will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alberto Landeros, who rushed for 155 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Julian Madera was another key player, rushing for 128 yards and one TD.
Sandia's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points over those games. As for Albuquerque, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Sandia was able to grind out a solid win over Albuquerque when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 26-17. Will the Matadors repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
