Football Recap: Rancho Buena Vista Comes Up Short at Home Against Otay Ranch

Rancho Buena Vista unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a blow against the Otay Ranch Mustangs on Friday, falling 37-6. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

Despite the loss, Rancho Buena Vista saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Van Piercy rushed for 61 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Piercy's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Even if they lost, Rancho Buena Vista's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Henry Allen and Gage Piercy, who racked up all four sacks between them.

Andrew 'AJ' Lopez looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 108 yards and three touchdowns, while also punching in one score on the ground. Darius Hawkins helped Lopez out on the ground, rushing for 53 yards and one TD.

Rancho Buena Vista didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 30-13 victory against Sweetwater on the 29th. As for Otay Ranch, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-7 defeat against Point Loma on the 29th.
