Softball Recap: St. Michael the Archangel Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

St. Michael the Archangel hadn't done well against Warrensburg recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Guardians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Tigers. This was payback for the Guardians, who suffered a 10-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sophie Young was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Young was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Lyla Ventimiglia was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ava Bates was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

St. Michael the Archangel's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Warrensburg, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Looking ahead, St. Michael the Archangel will square off against Lafayette County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Warrensburg, they will venture away from home to square off against Summit Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
