Recap: Port Allegany Gators vs. Johnsonburg Rams
It was a good run, but the Port Allegany Gators unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Johnsonburg. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Port Allegany has scored all season.
Port Allegany lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kayleigha Dowell, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Dowell scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Brynn Evens, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, Port Allegany were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Maria Casilio was her usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with three steals for Johnsonburg. Casilio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Cadence Brechtel was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Port Allegany's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-2. As for Johnsonburg, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Port Allegany will head out on the road to face off against Northern Potter at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Johnsonburg will be home for the holidays to greet Brockway at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Brockway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Monday.
