Baseball Recap: Shaw Comes Up Short

If Shaw was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Hardaway last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Raiders lost 14-5 to the Calvary Christian Knights on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost three in a row.

Shaw got a good showing from Dylan Lockhart, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest earned runs Lockhart has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Sincere Ford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Shaw is 8-3 when Ford posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Otis Stephens was another key player, getting no hits from his three at bats.

Shaw's loss dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Calvary Christian, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-10.

Looking ahead, Shaw will square off against Columbus at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Calvary Christian, they will take on Russell County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
