Baseball Game Preview: Massabesic Mustangs vs. Cheverus Stags

Massabesic hasn't had much luck against Cheverus recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Stags at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Massabesic comes in on four and Cheverus on six.

Massabesic had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Biddeford on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Tigers 13-0. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

The result came thanks to Landen Richard's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Massabesic let Emmett Carroll and Ryan Merrifield run wild. Carroll went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Merrifield got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Merrifield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Marcotte, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Massabesic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Biddeford struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Cheverus had just enough and edged out Biddeford 6-5 on Monday.

Massabesic's record now sits at 8-5. As for Cheverus, their record is now 10-1.

Massabesic was able to grind out a solid victory over Cheverus in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
