Football Recap: Melrose Dutchmen vs. Rockford Rockets

After losing to Rockford the last time they met, Melrose decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Melrose Dutchmen pulled ahead with a 28-27 photo finish over the Rockford Rockets on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Dutchmen as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Several Rockets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sean Asangwe, who picked up 141 receiving yards and a touchdown. Asangwe's longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards. Grant Kloss was another key rusher, gaining 73 total yards and a touchdown.

Melrose's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for Rockford, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Melrose will head out to face off against Minnewaska Area at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rockford, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Sauk Centre at 7:00 p.m.
