Cheyenne Mountain hasn't had much luck against Palmer Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Red-Tailed Hawks will square off against the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cheyenne Mountain sitting on four straight wins and Palmer Ridge on seven.
Cheyenne Mountain proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Discovery Canyon 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red-Tailed Hawks have posted since September 15th.
Addison Gutschick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered ten runs (all of which were unearned) on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abbi Houger, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024. Madison Anderson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Cheyenne Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon only posted a batting average of .333.
Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge got the win against Lewis-Palmer on Wednesday by a conclusive 13-3. Considering the Bears have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Palmer Ridge also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Pam Boyarko gave up three earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Boyarko.
On the hitting side, Corinna Arellano was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Rielyn Bentz was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Cheyenne Mountain's record now sits at 16-4. As for Palmer Ridge, their record is now 17-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Cheyenne Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Palmer Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs.
