Softball Recap: Fitzgerald Comes Up Short

Fitzgerald extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-26. They came up short against the Irwin County Indians, falling 7-0. If the Purple Hurricane were looking for revenge after losing 6-4 to the Indians when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Irwin County, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

For Irwin County's part, not much got past Lyla Moore, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Fitzgerald off the board. Moore has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sailor Mixon was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in November of 2024. Brynlee Brown was another key player, going 1-for-2 with four RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Irwin County beat Fitzgerald by a score of 21-2 later that day.
