Football Recap: Pine Crest Keeps St. John Paul II Academy's Under Pressure

After flying high against Oxbridge Academy last Friday, Pine Crest came back down to earth. The Panthers fell 22-15 to the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles on Friday. The Panthers have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Pine Crest lost, don't look at Zach Moss. Despite the final result, he rushed for 57 yards and one score, and also threw for 81 yards and one touchdown.

Even if they lost, Pine Crest's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jacob Lobis, Xavier Goin, and Brady Andersen, who each picked up one sack apiece. Pine Crest got some further help from Lobis: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

The critical scores for St. John Paul II Academy came from Nicholas Pouncey, Kawan Ingraham, and Kendrick Pierre. Pierre also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.

Pine Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for St. John Paul II Academy, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Pine Crest will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Miami Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they will venture away from home to take on North Broward Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
