Softball Recap: NEN Extends Winning Streak to Three

NEN extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 15-9. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Central City Bison. This was a revenge game for NEN: when they faced off against Central City on September 9th, they had to take a 12-0 loss.

Mady Dolliver was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

As for Central City, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-5. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Central City's side, Payton Burbach put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Burbach has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Burbach wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Deja Fothergill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. NEN is set to take on their familiar foe Ponca at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Central City will challenge rival Fort Calhoun at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bison 3, the Pioneers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
