Basketball Recap: Shadow Mountain Gets the Win

Cortez came into Wednesday's matchup looking for another win against Shadow Mountain, but Shonnie Holland wouldn't allow it. The Matadors secured a 36-32 W over the Colts on Wednesday thanks in part to Holland, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played.

Malaiah O'Bannon also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game.

Shadow Mountain's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Cortez, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Shadow Mountain will take on Lake Havasu at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cortez, they will challenge Marcos de Niza at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Padres have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
