Football Recap: Elgin Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Elgin had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-7 to make it five. They took a blow against the Bastrop Bears, falling 62-6. Having soared to a lofty 70 points in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Trey Flores threw for 72 yards on 12 of 18 attempts.

As for Bastrop, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 41 points or more this season.

Bastrop was led to victory by Gary Jefferson Jr. and Weston Nielsen. Jefferson Jr. rushed for 151 yards and four scores on only 11 carries, while Nielsen threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Jefferson Jr. a new career-high. Brent Carter was Nielsen's top target, picking up 66 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Elgin is set to face off against their familiar foe Pflugerville Connally at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bastrop will challenge rival Pflugerville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 966 yards in their previous games.
