Baseball Game Preview: Holy Innocents Episcopal Golden Bears vs. Wesleyan Wolves

The Holy Innocents Episcopal Golden Bears are taking a road trip to challenge the Wesleyan Wolves at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holy Innocents Episcopal's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Wesleyan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Friday just wasn't the day for Holy Innocents Episcopal's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lovett on Friday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Golden Bears were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Wesleyan entered their tilt with King's Ridge Christian on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Tigers.

Grayson McCollum made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Knox Bingam, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Matthew Wright also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Wesleyan pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Innocents Episcopal, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.

Holy Innocents Episcopal might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Wesleyan when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can Holy Innocents Episcopal avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
