Basketball Recap: Gabrielino Piles Up the Points Against Workman

It's playoff time, and Gabrielino had no trouble coming through when it counted. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the Workman Lobos 61-19. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 21 points or more this season.

Gabrielino got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Yamashita out in front who posted 27 points. Those 27 points gave Yamashita a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kimiko Nagata, who put up eight points in addition to ten assists and eight rebounds.

Gabrielino was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Workman's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iris Campos, who scored four points and eight boards. Campos is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 15 games she's played. Destiny Pelayo was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Gabrielino is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.9 points over those games. Workman's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

Gabrielino wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 74-20 victory against Villanova Prep on the 19th. Workman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
