Softball Game Preview: Golden Demons vs. Pomona Panthers

Golden has gone a perfect 7-0 against Pomona recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Demons will host the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Golden's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

On Wednesday, Golden made easy work of Conifer and carried off a 16-2 win. The Demons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Adrianna Riddle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lucca Merz was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Reagan Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Golden lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Mountain Range hit Pomona with a eight-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Mustangs, falling 16-6.

Golden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Pomona, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Golden beat Pomona 12-9 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Will the Demons repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
