Baseball Recap: Callaway Drops Season-High Score on Dutchtown

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Callaway). Everything went their way against the Dutchtown Bulldogs on Wednesday as the Callaway Cavaliers made off with a 15-4 victory. With that win, the Cavaliers brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Jackson Butts made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Harrington, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Slade Hunt also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Callaway hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matches.

Callaway is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. The defeat snapped Dutchtown's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-5 record.

Looking ahead, Callaway will host Lamar County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Dutchtown, they will challenge Newnan at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
