Baseball Game Preview: Franklin County Seahawks vs. Vernon Yellowjackets

The Franklin County Seahawks will head out on the road to square off against the Vernon Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Franklin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Franklin County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Port St. Joe on Friday. They fell 6-2 to the Tiger Sharks. The Seahawks have struggled against the Tiger Sharks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Franklin County got a good showing from Gabe Kelly, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kelly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Franklin County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sadiq Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Jones has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, Vernon gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Graceville with a sharp 18-8 win. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Colton Glover was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Wyatt Glenn was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Franklin County's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.

Everything went Franklin County's way against Vernon when the teams last played back in April of 2022, as Franklin County made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Seahawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
