Softball Recap: Coffee Gets the Win

Coffee came out on top against Pierce County on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Trojans took their contest against the Bears 7-2. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.

Maggie Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Coffee got a big performance out of Ella Edge, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coffee's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Pierce County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Coming up, Coffee will challenge Thomas County Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pierce County, they will be playing at home against Long County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Tide's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
