Soccer Game Preview: Rome vs. Calhoun

Rome is a perfect 5-0 against Calhoun since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Wolves will be playing at home against the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Calhoun will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Rome extended their winning streak to eight on Tuesday. Wolves blew past East Paulding 4-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Rome's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 44th, while East Paulding are ranked 207th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Calhoun, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Sonoraville with a sharp 5-1 win on Tuesday. It was an even better day for Alex Delgado as he scored three goals for his team.

Calhoun used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Sonoraville. Aiden Delgado played for 60 minutes having averaged 40 this season and David Vera got 60 vs. an average of 31.7. The new lineup might be seeing more playing time going forward considering the group combined for a total of two goals and two assist.

Calhoun has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those five games. As for Rome, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Rome beat Calhoun 2-0 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Will Wolves repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
