Basketball Recap: Encina Takes a Loss

Encina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were dealt a 61-32 loss at the hands of the Forest Lake Christian Falcons. The Bulldogs lost against the Falcons in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 42-41 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Encina had strong showings from Elise Brandon, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, and Khaliah McDonald, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards. That was a full 43.8% of Encina's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Encina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.

Forest Lake Christian was led to victory by Kenzie Harrington and Jordan Bell. Harrington dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Bell went 8 of 16 on her way to 19 points along with six steals and five boards. Harrington has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Rowley, who had 15 points.

Encina's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Forest Lake Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Encina will head out to square off against Foresthill at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Forest Lake Christian, they will host Futures at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest Lake Christian is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
