Basketball Recap: Katie Johnson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Moon Area

Chartiers Valley won the last time they faced Moon Area and things went their way on Friday too. The Chartiers Valley Colts walked away with a 44-33 victory over the Moon Area Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colts.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chartiers Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katie Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in rebounds. Rachel Boehm was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Chartiers Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moon Area only racked up four assists.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaedin Griggs, who posted 12 points and five steals. That was a full 36.4% of Moon Area's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jayla Brown, who put up ten points.

Chartiers Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Moon Area, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-5 record.

Chartiers Valley has already played their next contest, a 54-14 win against New Castle on the 27th. As for Moon Area, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 51-24 defeat against South Fayette on the 27th.
