Recap: Athens Wildcats vs. Sayre Redskins
The Athens Wildcats won against the Sayre Redskins last Monday with 36 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Athens came out on top against Sayre by a score of 36-28. The win made it back-to-back wins for Athens.
Sayre's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abbie McGaughey, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and three blocks, and Elizabeth Shaw who scored ten points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Sayre smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Athens has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for Sayre, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will square off against Wellsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sayre, they will head out on the road to challenge North Penn-Mansfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in North Penn-Mansfield's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Sayre has been banged up by 11 consecutive losses on the road.
