Football Recap: Shawnee Mission West Vikings vs. Olathe East Hawks

Shawnee Mission West had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it nine. They took a 41-22 bruising from the Olathe East Hawks. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Shawnee Mission West lost, don't look at Mason Vonfeldt. Despite the final result, he rushed for 112 yards, and also threw for 225 yards and one touchdown. DeAndre Simms also helped out as he racked up 106 rushing yards.

As for Olathe East, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Olathe East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaden Scott out in front who rushed for 172 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Javion Wilson, who threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes.
