Football Recap: Shawnee Mission West Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Shawnee Mission West had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it nine. The game between the Vikings and the Olathe East Hawks didn't end well, with the Vikings falling 41-22. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Shawnee Mission West lost, don't look at Mason Vonfeldt. Despite the final result, he rushed for 112 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 225 yards and one TD. DeAndre Simms helped out on the ground, rushing for 106 yards.

As for Olathe East, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Olathe East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Scott, who rushed for 172 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Javion Wilson, who threw for 207 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes.

Shawnee Mission West didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-7 loss against Gardner-Edgerton on the 24th. As for Olathe East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 21-19 win against Olathe North on the 24th.
