Basketball Recap: Pacheco Takes a Loss

Pacheco has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 48-40 loss to the Los Banos Tigers. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 51-39 to them when the teams met on Friday, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Pacheco saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mary Tava posted 15 points and four blocks. Tava has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jeanette Ortiz, who put up six points and four blocks.

Pacheco's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Los Banos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pacheco will host Lathrop at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Los Banos, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Enochs at 7:00 p.m.
