Football Recap: Sandia Falls Short Against Ranked Eldorado

Sandia faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Matadors fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 53-50. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (37), the Matadors still had to take the loss.

Sandia's loss came despite strong showings from Jahleel Lewis and George Smith. Lewis threw for 329 yards and four TDs, while Smith gained 231 total yards and four touchdowns. Smith was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards.

Sandia dropped their record down to 2-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those home losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.0 points over those games. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
