Softball Game Preview: Union Grove Wolverines vs. Pike County Pirates

The Union Grove Wolverines will head out to face off against the Pike County Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pike County will be up against a hot Union Grove squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. The Wolverines put the hurt on Hampton with a sharp 16-1 victory on Thursday.

Lauren Jordan and Braelynn Stroud did most of the damage at the plate: Jordan went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Stroud went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Stroud a new career-high. Jada Jackson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Union Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike County). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Rutland an 18-0 shutout on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won five in a row.

Union Grove's record is now 17-4. As for Pike County, their record now sits at 16-4.
