Baseball Recap: Spotswood Triumphs

Spotswood won the last time they faced South River and things went their way on Thursday too. The Chargers walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Rams. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Jack Korneski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gehrig Hewitt, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Spotswood is undefeated when Hewitt posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. Brady DiStefano was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Spotswood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Spotswood now has a winning record of 13-12. As for South River, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spotswood will host Piscataway Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South River, they will be playing at home against Sayreville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
