Softball Recap: Irwin County Starts Season with Victory Against Southwest Georgia Academy

Irwin County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They skirted past the Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors 3-1. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 14-2 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.

Brooklyn Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sailor Mixon, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brynlee Brown, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Southwest Georgia Academy's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Coming up, Irwin County will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Berrien at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Southwest Georgia Academy, they will venture away from home to face off against Calvary Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
