Recap: Smethport Hubbers vs. Northern Potter Panthers
The Smethport Hubbers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Northern Potter Panthers on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 54-46 to the Panthers. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smethport in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.
Smethport's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Hungiville is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Neff, who scored 13 points.
Smethport has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Northern Potter, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
Smethport will be playing at home against the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Coudersport is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Northern Potter will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
