Basketball Recap: Liberty Piles Up the Points Against Stockdale

A well-balanced attack led Liberty over Stockdale in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Liberty Patriots blew the Stockdale Mustangs out of the water with a 69-21 final score. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.

Leading Liberty to victory were Nevaeh Matthews and Brooke Tallon. Matthews went 7-for-14 en route to 17 points and five steals, while Tallon posted eight points in addition to ten rebounds and four steals. Liberty is undefeated when Matthews posts five or more steals, but 10-12 otherwise. Allison Acosta was another key player, putting up nine points.

Liberty was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Stockdale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ashley Wilson, who put up nine points along with six boards and three blocks, and Abigail Stanley, who had two points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Stanley a new career-high.

Liberty now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Stockdale, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-17.

Coming up, Liberty will take on Kerman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Stockdale does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
