Baseball Game Preview: Pope Greyhounds vs. Riverwood Raiders

The Pope Greyhounds will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Riverwood Raiders at 5:55 p.m. The timing is sure in Pope's favor as the team sits on 18 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Riverwood has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Pope barely beat Woodstock the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Pope put the hurt on Woodstock with a sharp 12-3 victory on Friday. Considering the Greyhounds have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Riverwood and Sequoyah, and Sequoyah kept the tradition alive. Riverwood fell just short of Sequoyah by a score of 6-5 on Friday.

Pope has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Riverwood's loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Pope took their victory against Riverwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 11-2. Will Pope repeat their success, or does Riverwood has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
