Softball Recap: Lithonia Takes a Loss

Lithonia extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-5. They came up short against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers, falling 18-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.

As for Southwest DeKalb, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games.

For Southwest DeKalb's part, Jasmin Josey and Makayla Dixon made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Josey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Dixon pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Josey has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Josey went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Dixon fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave Dixon a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chrissee Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Mauri Barnes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Lithonia will square off against rival Northview at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Southwest DeKalb is set to challenge their familiar foe St. Pius X Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 1.3, the Golden Lions 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
