Basketball Game Preview: Rio Linda Knights vs. Woodland Wolves

Rio Linda has gone a perfect 10-0 against Woodland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Rio Linda Knights will get right back to it and host the Woodland Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Rio Linda is coming into the game hot, having won their last 13 games.

Rio Linda is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Mira Loma: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Rio Linda blew Mira Loma out of the water with a 63-14 final score. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 22 points or more this season.

LaRay Mitchell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 10 of 11 on her way to 22 points and six steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in shooting accuracy (91%). Savannah Grant was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 17 boards.

Meanwhile, Woodland was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 40-39 to Natomas. The Wolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rio Linda will have to contain Madilyn Watkins as she made an impact in Woodland's last game. She went 7 for 12 to rack up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Byrd, who posted no points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Woodland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Rio Linda pushed their record up to 23-3 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points over those games. As for Woodland, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-19.

Everything came up roses for Rio Linda against Woodland in their previous meeting back in January, as the team secured a 73-11 victory. In that matchup, Rio Linda amassed a halftime lead of 49-11, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
